WILMINGTON — The public can now make their opinion heard on regional tier projects in the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s 2028-2037 State Transportation Improvement Plan.

The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Board opened a 14-day public comment period at its July 29, 2026. Input will be used to decide the WMPO’s point assignment for regional impact projects.

The WMPO is eligible to assign 1,600 local input points to projects eligible in both the regional impact and division needs funding categories. These points are factored into the final prioritization score used to develop the 2028-2037 State/Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program.

Draft Regional Impact local input point assignments are available at www.wmpo.org/ncdot-prioritization. The public comment period will remain open through Wednesday, August 12, at 5 p.m. Comments may be submitted by email to [email protected] or U.S. Mail to the WMPO at 525 N. 4th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401. All comments received during the 14-day period will be considered before the plan is finalized and presented for adoption.
