New Hanover County ABC Board grants $625,000 to local nonprofits

NEW HANOVER — The New Hanover County Alcohol Beverage Control Board announced $625,000 in grants to ten local nonprofits through its 2026 Community Health & Wellness Grant program.

This program uses revenue from liquor sales to fund organizations offering prevention, education, treatment, or research for alcohol and substance abuse in New Hanover County. Since its start in 2021, the grant program has awarded over $3 million.

This year, New Hanover County ABC is providing $625,000 in grants to the following organizations:

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern North Carolina: $70,000 for the SMART Moves program, helping youth resist harmful substances.
  • LINC Inc.: $70,000 for the LINC Anatomy program, training formerly incarcerated individuals as Peer Support Specialists.
  • Coastal Horizons: $70,000 for the Healthy Families Program, offering family counseling to reduce early substance use by children.
  • A Safe Place: $70,000 for the Supportive Housing Program, providing support services to survivors of sex trafficking.
  • Five14 Revolution: $70,000 to support the Women’s Coordinated Care Program for human trafficking survivors with substance use disorder.
  • Carousel Child Advocacy Center: $70,000 to provide trauma therapy for child survivors of abuse and neglect.
  • First Fruit Ministries: $70,000 for its street outreach program, connecting unsheltered individuals with recovery pathways.
  • Tides, Inc.: $70,000 for the Restoration & Resilience training program for pregnant and newly postpartum mothers pursuing sobriety.
  • Lower Cape Fear Lifecare: $50,000 to provide palliative care for individuals with alcohol-related chronic illnesses.
  • MedNorth Health Center: $15,000 to expand access to cigarette cessation medications.

The grant program meets the state requirements of North Carolina General Statute 18B-805(c)(3), which mandates that North Carolina ABC Boards distribute at least 7% of annual gross receipts for initiatives reducing the impact of alcohol and substance misuse.
