Shooting in Leland under investigation

LELAND — A shooting occurred Thursday night in the 1300 block of West Gate Drive in Leland. Police are investigating the incident. 

At roughly 10:40 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, police officers were called to Comet Westgate Apartments in response to a breaking and entering.

“Upon arrival, officers and EMS personnel found a man inside the apartment who had been shot. He was transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center with serious injuries,” Leland PD noted in a release.

The victim and shooter names are not being released currently, though the department indicates the parties knew one another. The public at large is not in danger, according to police.
