“James Bishop is a well known figure in the community and he is committed to upholding the safety standards of Wrightsville Beach,” the town said in an announcement last week.

The town terminated Squires July 10 after nearly four years as the town’s police chief. He previously worked for the City of Virginia Beach Police Department for 28 years.

A WB spokesperson sent Port City Daily a document Friday showing Squires made $119,377 per year at the time of his departure. It states he did not have a contract or a termination letter.

PCD asked the town why Squires was fired and if he submitted a resignation letter but did not receive a response by press.
