SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Think your sweet Bailey or Fido can win awards for their cuddly looks?
paws4people wants to put it to the test.
The local nonprofit has opened entries nationwide for its 2023 Dog of the Year Contest. Contestants can submit a photo of their dog, along with, “in the dog’s words,” why he or she should win.
It’s $10 to submit the photo to paws4people, which equals 10 votes for the pet. Each additional vote costs $1. Funds go to support the Wilmington-based nonprofit trains and places, free of charge, service, facility and emotional support dogs.
Submissions are open now and voting begins Dec. 1, to close Dec. 31.
The winner will receive:
- An artist drawing of the winning dog to be featured on the label of a limited run of Wrightsville Beach Brewery Pale Ale Beer Can
- $500 cash prize
- $100 gift certificate to Wrightsville Beach Brewery
- Mini photography session valued at $400 by Samantha Ann Photography
- A framed commemorative artwork of beer can film
- PNG files of artist Emma Gay’s renderings of the winning dog in black and white and in color sent digitally via email
- And special recognition at a brewery event.
Second- and third-place winners will receive a $50 gift certificate to Wrightsville Beach Brewery and special recognition at a brewery event.
Contest participants and winners do not have to be local; prizes can be shipped. Nominations can be made here.
