NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Following a sewage spill reported Monday, crews had to close down a land on Middle Sound Loop Road. That road is now reopened.
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority has repaired the broken pipe, which caused 2,340 gallons of untreated wastewater to spill into a ditch in the 500 block of Middle Sound Loop Road. While crews were able to reclaim a portion of the spill, some wastewater escaped into a tributary of Pages Creek.
The State Division of Water Resources has been notified of the spill and CFPUA staff is conducting surface water sampling in the area of the spill.
