WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Officers are investigating a string of vehicular break-ins in Wrightsville Beach.
According to a release from the WBPD, multiple calls were made regarding thefts in parked cars. So far in their investigation, the police said 14 cars were broken into, all unlocked.
One vehicle was stolen, as thieves found the keys and drove away. Police have recovered the automobile.
An unsecured handgun was stolen from another.
“In the aftermath of these thefts, various victims are spending their day, alerting banks, cancelling credit cards, and overcoming the shock of being victimized,” the WBPD explained in a release.
The department reminds motorists to:
- Always lock your car when you leave it (even in your own driveway)
- Never leave valuable property in your car (especially overnight)
- Never leave your firearm in your parked car (especially overnight)
- Always keep a record of the serial number of your firearms and valuable property
