
WILMINGTON, NC – In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion and ease parking concerns for the 2022 Azalea Festival parade, Wave Transit will be providing express shuttles from Independence Mall to downtown Wilmington.
The parade takes place on Apr. 9 at 9 a.m., and the shuttle will operate from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. It travel from the mall to 4th St. between Chestnut and Princess streets in downtown Wilmington to drop off passengers attending the parade.
Festival-goers will be able to park their cars in the mall lot and return after the parade; the shuttle will pick up riders in front of Dillard’s. The shuttle will cost $4 per person round-trip for adults and $2 per person round-trip for children; kids 4 and under can ride for free with a paying adult. Only cash is accepted, preferably small bills and exact change. Masks must be worn onboard the buses.
The shuttle will operate every 15 minutes, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the last shuttle exits downtown at 1:45 p.m. Any riders who miss the last shuttle can use their ticket to board Wave Transit route 202 to Independence Mall. Passengers will go to the station on 3rd Street between Campbell and Red Cross streets to board the bus.
