WILMINGTON — Wilmington’s Riverwalk has once again landed as a contender for Best Riverwalk in the nation.

The recognition is part of USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice awards. Wilmington last won in 2014 and placed second in last year’s poll (Detroit, Michigan came out on top).

In 2022, the historic downtown riverwalk is pitted against 19 others, including in Chicago, New York City, San Antonio, Savannah, and Philadelphia.

According to Connie Nelson, spokesperson for the Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau, the recognition adds to the area’s tourism.

“[I]t provides priceless exposure and promotion for Wilmington and our Riverwalk because the CVB and other economic development organizations are able to incorporate a number one designation into marketing materials,” she said.

Currently, Nelson said Wilmington’s Riverwalk is ranking number six on the poll. Voting ends at noon on Apr. 11, with winners announced Apr. 22.
