State forest service relocates to $7M aviation complex in Duplin County

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — The Duplin County Airport Commission and Economic Development Commission companies welcomed the North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) Eastern Aviation Hub last week.

NCFS relocated its 10-member aviation staff from Kinston to a new $7 million aviation hangar complex at Duplin County Airport. State funding was distributed by the N.C. Department of Transportation Division of Aviation for the construction of the complex.

NCFS provides, detects and suppresses forest fires across the state in areas such as national forests, national parks and military installations. The NCFS also assists with statewide forest management, pest control, water quality initiatives, emergency and land management tasks.
