New fire chief hired for Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH – Joshua Haraway has been appointed as fire chief for the Wrightsville Beach Fire Department, according to a release from the town. His first day on the job will be Mar. 22. 

Chief Haraway has worked in fire service since 2002, after getting his start as a volunteer firefighter. He eventually worked his way up to captain/relief battalion chief/EMT for New Hanover County Fire Rescue and served as fire chief for Indian Beach, N.C., for three years. 

“My vision for the department is to become the standard for customer service in the region,” he said in the release.

Chief Haraway earned an associates degree from Columbia Southern University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in fire protection administration from CSU.
