WILMINGTON – Filmmakers can now submit their work for consideration into the Cucalorus Film Festival, which celebrates 28 years in 2022. The event will get underway Wednesday, Nov. 16, through Sunday, Nov. 20.
Wilmington’s independent festival announced submissions open officially Feb. 7. Applications must be submitted by Apr. 28, with a late deadline of May 19, and can be submitted here.
Filmmakers of all genres — comedy, drama, horror, experimental work, student films, short films, features — are encouraged to apply. Minority filmmakers can also submit to have their entry fee waived; email [email protected] for more information.
The festival is also accepting applicants for its Works-in-Progress (WiP) Lab, which focuses on social justice documentaries made by Black filmmakers. The weeklong residency takes place at Jengo’s Playhouse, the Cucalorus headquarters on Princess Street. The residency is a partnership with Working Films, wherein “participating artists will receive feedback on their work-in-progress and explore audience engagement strategies through workshops, consultations, and community screenings,” according to a release.
The residency is slated to take place Sept. 25-Oct. 2. Applications are accepted here through Apr. 27.
