Boiling Spring Lakes police names shooting victim

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Boiling Spring Lakes police have provided an update on a fatal shooting that occurred Jan. 6 at an intersection.

Hiram Jay Willetts, Boiling Spring Lakes, was killed. He was 61 years old.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Windemere and Masters drives. Upon arrival, just before 10 p.m., police discovered Willetts was shot during an altercation. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident remains under investigation through the collaborative efforts of the Boiling Spring Lakes Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation,” according to a news release from the police chief.
