NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Customers of Cape Fear Public Utility Authority now have an extra month to apply for financial assistance as part of the utilities’ Covid-19 relief program.
The financial aid program helps residential customers pay for CFPUA bill charges incurred between Jan. 27, 2020, and Oct. 15, 2021, that are delinquent because of the pandemic. The deadline is now Jan. 31, 2022.
People can apply at CFPUA.org/Relief or by calling Good Shepherd Center, the administrator of the program, at 910-763-4424. To qualify, the customers’ household income must be at or below 80 percent of the area household income for New Hanover County. That’s an income of $44,000 for a single person; an income of $50,520 for a household of two; $56,550 for a household of three; $62,800 for a household of four; $67,850 for a household of five; $72,850 for a household of six; $77,900 for a household of seven; and $82,900 for a household of eight.
New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington each contributed $500,000 in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds to the program.
