WILMINGTON — Now that the Jack-o-lanterns have been carved and lit up for Halloween night, discarding leftover pumpkins can be easily done at the New Hanover County Arboretum. Plus, it will be helpful to the environment.
Sponsored by the Coastal Composting Council, Wilmington Compost Company and N.C. Cooperative Extension, the 3rd Annual Pumpkin Collection event takes place through Wednesday, Nov. 3. Individuals can drop off the gourds at 6206 Oleander Dr. Participants should enter from Bradley Drive and follow the arrows toward the marked collection trailers.
The pumpkins will be used as compost, which adds nutrients to the soil, and for animal feed for local livestock.
