Update: Water main break fixed in Myrtle Grove area

Update: Water main break has been repaired and water restored in the Myrtle Grove area, though a boil water advisory is in effect.

WILMINGTON — The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority responded to a water main break in the Tangle Oaks community early Monday. The break in Myrtle Grove has affected 120 residential customers, which CFPUA said will incur low or no water pressure as crews repair the break.

Customers impacted live on Marina Club Drive, Northcreek Drive, Villa Court, and Pond Drive.

When low or no pressure is in effect, it can increase back siphonage and bacteria can get into the water system, according to CFPUA. A precautionary boil water advisory will be in effect once the break has been fixed and water service is restored. Customers will be asked to boil tap water for a minute, cool and then consume for drinking, which includes brushing teeth, making ice, preparing food, etc. It does not need to be boiled to shower or bathe.

There also will be signage placed in the area to notify customers of the advisory. The advisory will be lifted once CFPUA lab staff test the water’s safety.
