Two clusters of Covid-19 cases have been disclosed at UNCW, the university’s first such incident this semester. Clusters are present at first-year residence hall Keystone House, and within a portion of Seahawk Crossing, an apartment-style community.
Clusters are defined by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services as five or more cases of Covid-19 linked by proximity and time.
UNCW entered the spring semester will far more resources dedicated to Covid-19 testing than were available last fall.
A robust re-entry testing program and regularly-scheduled “surveillance testing” for students taking classes on campus has likely dampened the spread of Covid-19 in the UNCW community this semester.
While new case counts near the beginning of the fall semester exceeded 20 per day at times, numbers this semester have been more subdued. Though at least 40 students tested positive this week.
