Wilmington Riverwalk ranked #2 in readers’ choice travel award contest

WILMINGTON – USA Today announced its 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest last month, and Wilmington, N.C.’s downtown Riverwalk immediately started racking up votes. On Friday, after four weeks of voting, winners were announced: Wilmington Riverwalk came in #2, right behind Detroit’s International Riverwalk in the Motor City in Michigan.

Downtown’s riverwalk spans almost 2 miles, and is a place where pedestrians can stroll to enjoy the Cape Fear River, meander through 200 shops, restaurants, attractions, and more.

“Wilmington, North Carolina is a destination on the rise, and this recognition as one of the nation’s Best Riverwalks is quite timely as we celebrate the completion of River Place and look forward to more grand openings later this year for the Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center and North Waterfront Park, with its open-air world-class concert venue managed by Live Nation,” Kim Hufham, president/CEO of the New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority, stated in a press release. “These new amenities along the northern riverfront further enhance and complement the vibrant Wilmington Riverwalk.”

The Wilmington Riverwalk has tracked on USA Today’s poll before in 2014 when it came in as #1.
