
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Matthew Stallings, 29, is being charged with first degree attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his wife he is separated from more than 15 times and throwing her from a second-story balcony of her apartment.

Stallings broke into his estranged wife’s home around 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the New Providence Park Apartment Homes off North College Road. The victim was treated for life-threatening injuries but is in stable condition, according to a release from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives learned Stallings was in Duplin County after the attempted murder and located and arrested him with assistance from the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office.
Stallings was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female, communicating threats, and first-degree burglary.
