Fort Fisher cancels 156th commemoration program

Gov. Roy Cooper extended an eviction moratorium by a month, moving the end date to Jan. 31, 2020.

KURE BEACH — The rise of Covid-19 cases in North Carolina led to the cancelation of the 156th Commemoration of the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, originally scheduled for Jan. 16. Site officials said in a press release they hope to resume onsite programming in spring.

The Fort Fisher State Historic Site is open to visitors in limited capacity at 1610 Fort Fisher Blvd. It’s operated among 26 other historic sites, plus arts and science museums, the symphony, the state arts council, libraries and other venues, all within the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The agency focuses on state natural and cultural resources for social, cultural, educational and economic outreach.
