WPD launches new app for anonymous tips

WILMINGTON — Wilmington Police Department has launched a new mobile app.

The app is designed to help users anonymously submit tips. It will also display local crime alerts.

“In order to stop violence in our community, we need the community’s help,” Chief Donny Williams said in a press release. “If you know that a violent crime is about to occur, please use this app. If you have information on a past crime, please use this app. You will remain completely anonymous, and you may help save someone’s life.”

The app is now available to be downloaded in the iTunes App Store or Google Play Store. Though the app is intended to replace the existing text-a-tip program, residents without a smartphone can still anonymously submit tips by texting WPDNC to 847411.
