WILMINGTON — Trial Management Associates LLC and Wrightsville Family Practice will oversee two new Covid-19 vaccine trials.
The local partnership was previously named as one of 10 sites selected nationwide to implement trails for the Moderna vaccine, which was recently shown to be 95% effective.

“These trials represent an exceptional opportunity for people in our
community to not only contribute to the development of coronavirus vaccines, but to also have the chance to receive a vaccine before they become readily available,” Phil Dattilo, president of TMA, said in a press release.
Moderna expects to submit an Emergency Use Authorization request through the Food and Drug Administration in the coming weeks. Once approved, production and rollout of the vaccine to the U.S. could take months.
With the new trials in Wilmington soon underway, Dattilo describes this phase as an early way for residents to get access to a vaccine.
“TMA’s goal is to bring as many coronavirus vaccine trials to our community until an FDA-approved vaccine is widely available to the Wilmington community and surrounding areas,” he said in the release.
The team is requesting healthy study volunteers 18 and older to partake in the new trials. Coordinators are especially seeking the participation of healthcare workers, first responders, and other front-line essential employees who face higher exposure to the virus.
