NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Residents will receive their tax bills soon, as New Hanover County government began mailing them out this week. Taxes are due Sept. 1, 2026, and can be paid without interest until Jan. 5, 2027.
The New Hanover County tax rate is set at 30.6 cents per $100 for fiscal year 2026-2027. However, residents who live in one of the county’s municipalities will also have an additional tax rate included on their bills:
- Carolina Beach – 17.12 cents per $100
- City of Wilmington – 33.15 cents per $100
- City of Wilmington Municipal Services District – 5 cents per $100
- Wrightsville Beach – 5.31 cents per $100
- Kure Beach – 19.5 cents per $100
For people in the unincorporated areas, a fire services tax rate is set at 7.25 cents per $100 and they’ll receive a fee as part of the county’s Stormwater Services Program, to be listed as a separate line item on the tax bill (see more here).
Property owners who utilize escrow will receive acourtesy notice but should verify their taxes have been paid by their mortgage company.
Otherwise, payments can be set up into four equal payments as need be; the tax office accepts credit card, debit card, and E-check payments in-person, online, or by calling 1-877-309-0878, and it has an outdoor drop box.
“Taxes go to support vital programs and services throughout our community that keep residents and visitors safe while enhancing our quality of life,” New Hanover County Tax Administrator Allison Snell said in a press release from the county. “If anyone needs assistance, we encourage them to reach out to our team before January 6 to discuss with payments plan options so they don’t become delinquent.”
