
BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A brush fire that started Wednesday at Brunswick Nature Park has the area closed to the public until further notice.
Staff discovered the fire at 1:23 p.m. on Feb. 28 and by 5 p.m. the fire encomapssed 10 acres. Its cause has not been verified.
The fire was being manned by North Carolina Forest Service and local firefighters. Visitors were not impacted and law enforcement cleared the park, located at 2601 River Road SE, in Winnabow.
The fire is not affecting heavily populated areas, according to a press release from the county.
Damages will be assessed after the burn is under control, though the county had not received reports of damage to park structures. The Forest Service will investigate following containment of the fire.
County officials will keep the park closed until further notice and reminds the public that drones not allowed to be flown overhead or near the wildfire.
