WILMINGTON — The 48th vice president of the United States will be making an appearance at UNCW come October.
The university announced Mike Pence is scheduled to deliver the fall 2025 Chancellor’s Dare to Learn Lecture at Kenan Auditorium on Oct. 13, 6:30 p.m.
Pence served as Donald Trump’s VP from 2017 to 2021 and before that was the governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2017 and a U.S. House representative from 2001 to 2013. The Dare to Learn lecture invites the campus community to hear various perspectives from experts and leaders with the goal to encourage engagement across a spectrum of ideas.
Guest speakers often share their experiences and lessons learned. Past speakers have included former NASA astronaut and retired U.S. Navy Capt. Scott Kelly, veteran political strategists Donna Brazile and Karl Rove, a political consultant and former senior Advisor to President George W. Bush.
Chancellor Aswani K. Volety said in a press release: “As a university that ‘dares to learn,’ UNCW values providing students with opportunities to hear from leaders whose experiences inspire the free exchange of thoughts and opinions within a campus climate of civility and mutual respect.”
After graduating from Indiana University law school, Pence married his wife, Karen, had three children and entered public service. Since his stint serving under the commander in chief of the U.S., Pence founded the policy organization Advancing American Freedom, which promotes conservative policies in America.
Pence also published a New York Times bestselling autobiography, “So Help Me God,” in 2022 and “Go Home for Dinner” in 2023.
WECT news anchor Jon Evans will moderate the event. Tickets are required and available at no cost to members of the campus and community here.
