SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Port City Daily, WECT, WHQR Public Media and UNCW’s The Seahawk are coming together to host a forum the first Wednesday of October for New Hanover County candidates vying for a seat on the board of commissioners and board of education.
The forum will be held at UNCW’s Burney Center at 6 p.m. on Oct. 7. It’s free and open to the public, and also will be streamed live on the WECT website, app, and YouTube channel, and will be shared on Facebook via livestream by all outlets.
WECT’s Jon Evans will moderate the forums and reporters from all outlets will take turns asking questions of the candidates. The public can also submit their own inquiries here, as there will be audience questions considered.
The news outlets also have published candidate questionnaires ahead of the election for readers to access below:
The goal of both the forum and questionnaires is to help inform voters on issues facing the counties and where the candidates stand regarding them.
Midterm elections take place this year with multiple opportunities for voters to cast a ballot. Requests for an absentee ballot are open now through Oct. 20, with early in-person voting opening the last two weeks in October (see all New Hanover County early voting hours here).
