WILMINGYON — Cape Fear Community College, in collaboration with Flying Machine Brewing Company, is introducing a commercial craft brewing class, inside the Randall Parkway brewery’s state-of-the-art production facility.

The program will take place over 10 weeks and include instruction with 10 hours of hands-on fieldwork, giving students direct experience brewing, kegging, and canning beer on commercial-grade equipment. It will inform aspiring professionals — or serious hobbyists — of industry skills. They will learn brewing science, beer styles, flavor profiles, equipment operation, and standards for quality control and service.

President Jim Morton said in a release connecting with local industry is important to the college to prepare students with hands-on opportunities.

“The community college system is so important in enhancing the skilled trades in the state, and Cape Fear’s program will provide valuable instruction directly related to our industry,” Grant Steadman, owner of Flying Machine Brewing Company, said in a release.

Classes begin on Oct. 5; registration is now open here. Students must be 21 years of age or older to participate.
