WILMINGTON — Jonathan Wayne “Bubbie” Sprouse, 53, of Laurinburg, NC, earned his wings peacefully on September 5, 2026.
Born in Newport News, VA, on August 27, 1973, he was the son of Nina Frances Bowen, and the late Charles Howard “Charlie” Chambers. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his longtime companion Cindy Williams of NC, his loving grandmother Nina Belle Sprouse, and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his mother Nina Frances Bowen, stepdad Bill Bowen, his sisters Brenda J. Bryant, and Tracey P. Patrick (Cameron); a nephew Nicholas H. Miller, two nieces Kayle M. Thorvaldson (Josh, Ayden & Emylin), Victoria N. Buckeridge (Cliff, Bradyn, Isabella & Castiel). He leaves behind an aunt and two uncles, numerous cousins, many friends, and his extended family who welcomed and looked over him when he moved to North Carolina, The Williams’ Family, whose love and kindness was dearly cherished by him and his family in VA.
He also leaves behind Denise Anderson, companion.
Although he did not have children of his own, Abigail was so very special to him and Cindy; he loved Abigail and thought the world of her, missed and talked about her every day.
He worked hard all his life, cherished his family and friends. Bubbie was a man of few words yet many smirky grins and a special chuckle that could identify him in any room! He may not have lived a perfect life, but he had a good heart and loved the best he could.
His family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at UNC Health Southeastern (Lumberton NC), and to the doctors and nurses at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center (Wilmington NC), for his care and for the kindness given to his family during this very difficult time.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of him once his family receives him back in VA.
