WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department is investigating two fatal incidents that happened over Labor Day weekend. Both involve vehicle-pedestrian collisions: The first happened Saturday evening along Market Street and the other early Sunday morning on 17th Street.
According to WPD, 33-year-old Xavier Richardson was struck on Saturday, Sept. 5, when an SUV traveling west in the 3500 block of Market Street struck him. Police say Richardson was in the roadway and passed away at the scene.
Around 2:46 a.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of South 17th Street after a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian was reported.
Preliminary information indicates a truck struck a 58-year-old man in the roadway, also pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing and the identification of the victim has yet been revealed.
