The Agenda: Meetings in local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Tuesday, Sept. 8

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will host a regular meeting at 3 p.m. in Commissioners Chambers. Meetings can be found here and the agenda includes:

  • Fire fee procedures
  • Legislative goals for 2027
  • Modification to public comment and hearing policies
  • Creation of an additional SRO position at Southport Christian School
  • Closed session item about litigation against Chemours

The Bald Head Island Village Council will host a special meeting at 9 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Department of Public Safety Building to have a closed session discussion on pending litigation, Aqueous Film-Forming Foams Multidistrict Litigation (D. SC.); Village of Bald Head Island vs. 3M Company, et al.

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen and Planning Board will host a joint special meeting at 4:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Conference Room to discuss planning needs and issues, as noted in the Land Use Plan. Meetings can be found here.

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen will host a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. Meetings can be found here and the agenda includes:

  • Pivot Parking contract execution consideration
  • Funding improvements to the bridge replacement projects

The Carolina Beach Town Council will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. Meetings can be found here and the agenda includes:

  • Request for a temporary ice rink at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk
  • Public hearing for a modification request to the conditional zoning for the Proximity to update the outdoor amenity areas and allow for 10 percent of the residential units to be short-term rentals.

Brunswick County Schools has a special called meeting  at 11 a.m. in the board room at the district administrative offices, 35 Referendum Dr. NE, in Bolivia. The board will go into closed session.

The Oak Island Town Council will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Meetings can be found here and the agenda includes:

  • Discussion of a proposed rezoning for two properties on Ocean Drive from commercial recreation to community business
  • Request for a business license for High Tide Powersports

The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in the Public Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker Street. The meeting is livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Appointing Beth Burns to the vacant commissioner’s seat
  • Final update on the emergency services merger
  • Approve housing assistance payment for 40 apartment units in Burgaw
  • Approve $1.3-million purchase order increase for phase 2 full design of fleet garage
  • Approve $2.9-million budget amendment for five ambulances and technology upfit

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 9 a.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 US Highway 117 S. The meeting is livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Update on school performance 

The Burgaw Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the town center, 108 E. Wilmington Street. Watch the meeting here and the agenda includes:

  • Approve preliminary plat for a major subdivision on a 79.82 acre tract

Pender County Board of Elections will meet at 6 p.m. at 305 Walker St. in Burgaw. An agenda was not posted by press.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority board meeting takes place at 9 a.m. at the Jordan Conference Room at 230 Government Center Dr. An agenda was not posted by press. 

New Hanover County Board of Commissioners to hold a special meeting on Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at the New Hanover County Government Center, Conference Rooms 138-139, 230 Government Center Drive. The purpose of the meeting is to enter into closed session.

Wednesday, Sept. 9

The Oak Island Board of Adjustment will host a regular meeting at 10 a.m. in the Council Chambers. Meetings can be found here and the agenda includes:

  • Variance request for a driveway repair

The Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet at 5 p.m. in the town hall, 820 S. Anderson Boulevard. The meeting is livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  •  Vote to allow up to 5 female chickens on lots that are 8,500 square feet or larger 

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Sustainability Committee takes place at 10:30 a.m. in the Jordan Conference Room at 230 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes information about the Energy Action Plan and financial assistance. 

Thursday, Sept. 10

The Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning Commission will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. An agenda was not posted by press. Meetings can be found here.

The Southport Board of Aldermen will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the Community Building. Meetings can be found here and the agenda includes:

  • Public hearing about the data center moratorium
  • Ordinance update to the fire prevention and protection section of the UDO

The Navassa Planning Board will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the community center. An agenda was not posted by press. 

City of Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Skyline Center, 929 North Front St. The agenda includes multiple evidentiary hearings, including storefront replacement and masonry work at 35 N. Front. St., renovations at 712 Red Cross St. and more. Stream meetings here.
