NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority has issued an emergency boil water advisory for part of Myrtle Grove Road and the surrounding area, effective immediately Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Crews are repairing a water main break in the area. Approximately 400 CFPUA customers are impacted at the following addresses:

  • The 7500 to 7800 blocks of Myrtle Grove Road
  • Johns Creek Road
  • Summer Hideaway
  • East Seaview Road
  • The Tidal Walk Community
  • McQuillan Drive
  • Lehigh Road
  • Cypress Village
  • Gabriel Street
  • Mitchell Court
  • The 6700 blocks of 7000 Carolina Beach Road

This message will be updated when the boil water advisory is lifted.

Customers may experience temporary water service disruptions while the work is taking place. Periods of low or no pressure in the water distribution system increase the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

When under a boil water advisory, customers are asked to boil their water for one minute, then allow it to cool prior to consumption. Alternatively, they may use another water source such as bottled water.

Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing, pet consumption, and the preparation of baby formula. Customers do not need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing.

Before a boil water advisory is lifted, CFPUA lab staff test the water to ensure it is safe to drink.
