CAROLINA BEACH — Community outreach nonprofit, Island Women, has donated $5,000 to the Endowed Scholarship at Cape Fear Community College.
“Island Women is a diverse group of women committed to bettering the community through education and literacy,” President of Island Women Julie House said. “We are honored to partner with the Cape Fear Community College Foundation to continue a legacy that will make a difference for years to come.”
The new Island Women Endowed Scholarship gives financial assistance to students enrolled in any program of study with demonstrated financial need; a preference is given to female students. The women-led group has taken up the mantle from the Pleasure Island Revitalization Association to ensure the scholarship’s sponsors remain rooted in Carolina Beach.
“Island Women’s commitment is a wonderful example of how local organizations can create a lasting impact for our students,” CFCC Foundation philanthropy officer Logan Wright said. “By continuing to grow this scholarship, they are helping ensure that students facing financial barriers have access to opportunities that can change the trajectory of their lives.”
The group will provide annual funding to the scholarship moving forward.
“The Island Women extend our sincere appreciation to every volunteer, sponsor, donor, and community partner whose support has made this donation possible,” House said.
