The Agenda: Meetings in local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, July 13

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here and the agenda includes:

  • Consideration of workforce housing investment and request for proposal
  • Naming recommendation for Holly Shelter Business Park

The Brunswick County Planning Board will host a regular meeting at 4 p.m. in the Government Center. Read Port City Daily’s coverage here. Meetings can be streamed here and the agenda includes public hearings on:

  • Rezoning 2 tax parcels (total of 3.29 acres) from R-7500 (medium density residential) to N-C (neighborhood-commercial) located off Old Ferry Connection SW (SR 1115) near Supply.
  • Conditionally rezone 1 tax parcel  (total of 2.65 acres) from former Sunset Beach ETJ-mainland multi-family residential district to commercial low density located at 1105 Seaside Rd SW, near Sunset Beach
  • Request to initially zone 3 tax parcels from former City of Southport-business district to commercial low density & commercial low density conditional district located at 1222 & 1408 N. Howe Street and 1221 N. Atlantic Avenue, near Southport
  • Consider Southport Meadows Planned Development Expansion (Phase 4) consisting of 141 single family homes and 150 townhomes on approximately 72.28 acres, creating an overall density of 4.02 dwelling units per acre, located on River Road SE (NC 87) near Southport.

The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the Hampstead Annex 15060 Hwy 17. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Various appointments and adjustments
  • $1.6-million approval of Athletic Field Lighting Final Phase capital project
  • $502,654 approval of countywide physical security refresh (Phase 2) to Nitor E LLC
  • Amendment to Atkinson Fire Protection Contract

Tuesday, July 14

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen will host a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers. Meetings can be watched here and the agenda includes:

  • Parks & Recreation Needs Assessment Survey
  • Consider ordinance 1872 increasing the penalty for failure to clean up dog waste (read PCD coverage here)
  • Consider budget ordinance amendments to add 2 additional park ranger positions to the authorized positions chart and fund the additional park ranger positions and related vehicles and equipment
  • Consider interlocal agreement with New Hanover County for a building permitting system
  • Consider application in response to the WMPO’s special call for projects

New Hanover County Board of Elections meets Tuesday, July 14, at 5:30 p.m. at 226 Government Center Dr. in the board of elections office board room to conduct regular business and discuss election-related matters. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Members of the public may join online through Microsoft Teams here or call in via phone, 1-336-218-2051, enter 885 584 2 followed by the pound sign (#). 

Pender County Board of Elections meeting has been canceled for July 14. 

Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet in the commissioners chambers at 30 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes administrative reports, the early voting plan and polling places for the general election. Meetings can be watched here.

The Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Burgaw Town Center 108 E. The agenda includes:

  • Downtown streetscape proposal 

The Carolina Beach Town Council will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. Meetings can be streamed here and the agenda includes:

  • Public hearing on a text amendment to Article 3 Section 3.19 of the UDO to allow for temporary structures beyond the pierhead line

The Oak Island Town Council will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. Meetings can be streamed here and the agenda includes:

  • Public hearings on proposed text amendments for Relationship of Building to Lot and Definitions of the Unified Development Ordinance to address Ground Level
  • Consider request for business license from High Tide Powersports 
  • Consider amendments to Chapter 28 – Traffic, Article II – Golf Carts as Mobility Assistance Devices
  • Consider budget ordinance amendment for land purchase

Wednesday, July 15

The Pender County Board of Adjustments will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the Public Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker Street. Meetings are livestreamed here and the agenda includes administrative decision appeal for Vineyard Trace.

The Oak Island Board of Adjustment will host a regular meeting at 10 a.m. inCouncil Chambers. Meetings can be streamed here and the agenda includes:

  • Selection of a chairman
  • Appeal of minimum housing hearing determination
  • Request for relief from Section 10.23.4 Sign Setbacks of the Unified Development Ordinance

Brunswick Sewer and Water H2GO meets at 5 p.m. on 146 Gregory Road. The agenda can be accessed here.

Thursday, July 16

The Southport Planning Board will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the Indian Trail Meeting Hall. Meetings can be streamed here and the agenda includes:

  • Swearing in of Ed Ekert and Lawrence N. Ashley 
  • Chair and vice chair selection
  • ZMA-26-03 Map Amendment 1501 N. Howe Street
  • ZTA-26-05 Text Amendment Data Centers
  • Zoning template review discussion

Leland Town Council will host a regular meeting at 6 p.m. in Town Hall. The agenda includes an exchange of real property and a Leland Area Garden Club presentation. Meetings can be watched here.

Navassa Town Council will host a regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Burgaw Planning Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Burgaw Town Center 108 E. Agenda not posted by press. 

New Hanover County ABC Board meets at 9 a.m. at 6009 Market St. An agenda was not posted by press.

Friday, July 17

The Bald Head Island Village Council will host a regular meeting at 10 a.m. in the Public Safety Complex. An agenda was not posted by press.
