LELAND — A 57-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of a Cumberland County activity bus that flipped over in Leland earlier this week faces charges.
Annette Blount, of Linden, N.C., has been charged with reckless driving with wanton disregard and exceeding a safe speed. The bus crash took place on Wednesday, July 8.
According to Leland Police Department, the bus driver was speeding when taking the curve from the northbound ramp of U.S. 17 to westbound U.S. 74. It left the roadway and overturned, partially blocking the road.
The bus was transporting members of the Douglas Byrd High School football team from Fayetteville, N.C., after a 7-on-7 football event at South Brunswick High School. All 33 people aboard, including 26 students, went to the hospital, treated and released. Four individuals, including two students and two adults, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Leland Police Department continues investigating the incident.
