
SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Severe weather threatens southeastern North Carolina on Monday, March 16. As such schools in the tri-county region are altering operational plans.
Waves of thunderstorms are expected in the region, bringing strong wind gusts, potentially exceeding 50 miles-per-hour, hail and possibly tornadoes, from morning through late afternoon. Below schools announced either remote learning or closures for students and staff; check back for updates.

Brunswick County Community College — All campus locations will be closed on Monday, March 16. This includes the Dinah E. Gore Sports & Aquatics Complex and the Odell Williamson Auditorium.
Brunswick County Schools — Schools closed for students, optional workday for staff. Staff should look for an email with additional details and guidance.
Cape Fear Community College — Cape Fear Community College will shift to remote instruction and employees are asked to work from home Monday. All CFCC locations will be closed, all scheduled events will be canceled, and the Bonnie Sanders Burney Child Development Center will be closed for the day.
Classical Charter Schools — Wilmington, Leland, Whiteville and Southport locations are closed Monday.
New Hanover County Schools — Remote learning day for students, who will hear directly from their individual schools regarding assignments and expectations for remote learning. Staff members should expect a follow-up email with additional guidance for the day. All extracurricular activities, athletics, and afterschool events are canceled.
Pender County Schools — Remote learning and work day for all staff and students on the traditional calendar, as well as for Pender Early College. Penderlea School is on spring break currently. More information regarding teacher communication, assignments, and expectations for the remote learning day will be shared by your child’s school.
UNCW — University will operate on a normal schedule as of Sunday evening; check back for updates or changes. Students and staff should continue checking email, text messages, the UNCW Mobile app, the UNCW Alert SafeZone app and the UNCW Alert website.
