WILMINGTON — Crews for Cape Fear Public Utility Authority have had to close lanes near Independence Mall due to an emergency water main repair. Closures are expected to be in place through late afternoon Thursday.

It affects traffic traveling on the 3600 block of Oleander Drive, including part of the intersection between Independence Mall and the Hanover Center shopping center. Two inner westbound lanes are closed, with traffic shifted into a single westbound lane. Eastbound lanes of Oleander Drive are not impacted. The center turning lane is also closed, with left-turning traffic not allowed.

Left turns out of the parking lots of both Independence Mall and Hanover Center and through-traffic between the shopping centers are blocked. Only right-turning traffic out of the parking lots will be possible during the emergency repair.

Repairs are expected to last around six hours Thursday.
