On Oct. 31, just after 11:00 p.m., WPD officers responded to a report of several masked and armed suspects — carrying firearms and a crowbar — who forcibly entered a residence. The occupant was reportedly awakened, assaulted, and robbed of personal items, including a safe, jewelry, and cash.
WPD detectives, with assistance from the WPD Gang Unit, have now identified 27-year-old Torrelle Shaw-Johnson and 18-year-old Selwyn Davis in connection to the home invasion.
Shaw-Johnson was located and arrested by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at his New Hanover County residence. Davis was taken into custody without incident at the Probation Office. Authorities also executed a search warrant at Davis’s home to collect evidence related to the crime.
Both suspects are currently being held at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center without bond.
Shaw-Johnson faces multiple felony charges, including:
- Kidnapping – 2nd degree
- Burglary – 1st degree
- Robbery with a dangerous weapon
- Possession of a firearm by a felon

Both Torrelle Shaw-Johnson and Selwyn Davis had their initial court appearance on Nov. 19. They are both scheduled for a second court appearance on Dec. 4, in Courtroom 302 at the New Hanover County Courthouse.
The WPD noted this case was a coordinated effort involving the sheriff’s office, the North Carolina Special Operations and Intelligence Unit, and NC Probation.
