BRUNSWICK COUNTY — The outdoor warning sirens around the Brunswick Nuclear Plant will undergo their annual, longer-duration test on Wednesday, Oct. 8, between 10 and 11 a.m.
The test, performed in cooperation with emergency management officials in Brunswick and New Hanover counties, will activate 38 sirens within a 10-mile radius of the plant. The sirens will sound at full-volume for up to three minutes.
Because this is a test, local broadcasting stations will not interrupt regular programming to broadcast Emergency Alert System messages. In a real emergency, however, these stations would broadcast information and instructions to the public.
More information on the emergency siren system can be found here.
