The Agenda: Government meetings happening this week

Monday, Sept. 1

Labor Day — government offices closed in tri-county region.

Tuesday, Sept. 2

New Hanover County Board of Commissioners meet at 4 p.m. at NHC Historic Courthouse, 24 N. 3rd St., room 301. The agenda includes two public hearings — one for a rezoning request for 5.18 acres at Market Street and Alexander Road to build residences, a Sheetz and fast-food restaurant, and another for a rezoning to to build 36 townhomes on Carolina Beach Road; read PCD coverage here. Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m , 805 South Walker Street in Burgaw. The agenda includes a memorandum of understanding for the Pender Fire and EMS merger and appointments to the ad-hoc noise ordinance committee. The meeting will livestream here.

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 3 p.m., 30 Government Center Drive. The agenda includes consideration of a request that the Board of Commissioners schedule a public hearing to consider amending the fire prevention ordinance and an after-action report for Potential Tropical Cyclone-8. Surf City Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m., in the Surf City Municipal Complex. An agenda was not posted by press.

Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will have a  public meeting at 6 p.m. on the public safety building. 

Leland Board of Adjustment meets at Leland Fire Station 51, 6 p.m. The agenda includes a variance request regarding signs and an amended meeting schedule.

New Hanover County Board of Education meets at 5 p.m. at the Board of Education Center, 1805 South 13th St. The agenda includes a contract with NHC Health and Human Services for school nurses, building a project list for inclusion on county’s debt issuance plan, and a budget update. Brunswick County Board of Education meets at 1109 Old Ocean Hwy. in Bolivia at 6 p.m. The agenda includes approval of BCS Health Plan and a federal programs consolidation grant application. Meeting is streamed here.

Wednesday, Sept. 3

North Topsail Beach Board of Alderman will meet at 11 a.m. in the North Topsail Beach Town Hall. The agenda includes Amendment to ONWASA’S Articles of Incorporation and a request from Onslow Water and Sewer Authority for a resolution to amend bylaws.

Pender County Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. The agenda includes final review of the Imagine Pender 2050 Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The meeting will livestream here.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Finance Committee will meet at 9 a.m. in the Jordan Room, 235 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes an $11 million Design Build Services Agreement with Crowder Construction Company for Wrightsville Beach Water System Interconnection and ICW Crossings Construction. Afterward, at 10 a.m. the Executive Committee meets in the same location. The agenda includes a resolution Authorizing Condemnation-Coastal Cement.

Southport Historic Preservation Commission will meet at the Community Center, 223 E Bay Street, at 4 p.m. The group will swear in a new member and, according to the agenda, discuss updated design standards in the Historic District.

Thursday, Sept. 4

Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. for a public meeting on the public safety building. 

New Hanover County Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at in the Assembly Room of the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. The agenda includes two public hearings, one for a rezoning to bring a grocery store and restaurant to Castle Hayne Road and the other to update sign ordinance in the UDO.
