The Agenda: Local government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, Aug. 18

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. It also will hold a special meeting regarding the homeless population.

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in the Brunswick County Administration Building. The agenda includes a rezoning request from commercial intensive to medium-density residential at 7190 Stella Drive in Leland. Also, an agreement with LDV, Inc. for the purchase and building of a mobile command center for critical incident response. The meeting will livestream here

The Kure Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. The agenda includes a final summary for the Kure Beach public works building and a contract agreement with CTC Disaster Response Inc. for disaster debris collection and disposal. 

The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m., 805 South Walker Street. The agenda includes consideration to rescind a previous vote on noise ordinance amendments and commissioner appointment to the Union Rescue Squad Board of Directors. The meeting will livestream here

Leland Town Council will have a 1 p.m. agenda briefing meeting at Leland Fire Station 51. The agenda includes:

  • Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance
  • Ordinance research discussion
  • Public Safety facility

The New Hanover County Schools Curriculum Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.

The New Hanover County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Presentation from the New Hanover Community Endowment
  • Public hearing on an ordinance change to change the approval process for Additional Dwelling Allowances from quasi-judicial to conditional

Tuesday, Aug. 19

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Deliver a Notice of Intent to Establish a Quiet Zone with the Federal Railroad Administration Pursuant to 49 CFR Part 222

Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 2 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers of the David R. Sandifer Building, 30 Government Center Dr., NE, in Bolivia. The meeting can be streamed here and the agenda includes:

  • Adoption of duties of director
  • Annual reevaluation of existing out of precinct polling locations
  • Appoint precinct officials 2025-2027

The Brunswick County Schools Committees will meet beginning at 9 a.m. in the Brunswick County Schools Administrative Offices, 35 Referendum Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes 

  • Federal Programs Consolidated Grant Application
  • Implementation of Employee Payroll Step Increases

Belville ABC Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at BCC Leland Campus, 2034 Enterprise Dr. The agenda includes best-selling items reports, update on staffing and recap of 2025 conference. The meeting is open to the public.

Wednesday, Aug. 20

The Pender County Board of Adjustment will meet at 9 a.m., 805 South Walker Street. An agenda was not posted by press.

Thursday, Aug. 21

Leland Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. at Leland Fire Station 51. The public is welcome to attend, though meetings aren’t currently being recorded. The agenda includes:

  • Change an ordinance to set forth procedures and terms under which the Town may negotiate and approve different types of reimbursement and improvement agreements.
  • Resolution directing the Town Clerk to investigate a petition for voluntary annexation of a contiguous area received from Jackeys Creek Investors, LLC

Southport Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at Indian Trail Meeting Hall, 113 W. Moore St.  The meeting is streamed here and the agenda includes: 

  • Events ordinance
  • UDO updates
  • Planning board goal setting

The New Hanover County ABC Board will meet at 9 a.m. at 6009 Market St. An agenda was not posted by press. It’s open to the public.

The Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Commission will meet at 2 p.m. in the Surf City Town Hall. The agenda includes review of federal and state legislation activities and an update to the vitex dune project. The meeting will stream here

The Brunswick Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the executive board room on its main campus, 50 College Road NE. An agenda was not posted by press.

Navassa Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at 338 Main St. An agenda was not posted by press.
