WILMINGTON — After an early-morning standoff with police, the Wilmington Police Department has taken a suspect who barricaded himself in his sister’s apartment into custody.
Police were called Friday after 4:30 a.m. to the Kerr Crossing Apartments in the 3000 block of Kerr Avenue, due to a domestic dispute between two siblings — a brother and sister.
According to WPD, the suspect, 35-year-old Hykeem Gaymon, had active warrants for his arrest and barricaded himself inside the apartment. The Cape Fear Regional Special Teams Crisis Negotiation Unit, SWAT team, and other officers responded to the scene.
They urged area residents to avoid the area as negotiations were underway. Around 9:30 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody and no injuries have been reported.
WPD has charged Gaymon with:
- 2 counts of breaking and entering with intent to terrorize
- 2 counts of assault on a female
- 1 count of assault by pointing a gun
More charges may be pending as the investigation moves forward.
However, Gaymon has pending charges, according to e-courts, for reckless driving, alcohol open container and resisting a public officer, as well as assault on a female, assault inflicting serious bodily injury, and a probation violation. There are also bond forfeitures outstanding for failure to appear in court, according to documents.
