The Agenda: Meetings in local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, Aug. 11

Navassa Town Council has an agenda meeting at 6 p.m. at town hall, 338 Main St. The public is welcome to attend; streaming isn’t available.

Brunswick County Planning Board will meet at 4 p.m. at 20 Government Center Dr. The public is welcome to attend and the agenda includes:

  • Hooper Road Tract: 1,700 single family units 
  • Parker Tract Major Subdivision: 102 single family units

Tuesday, Aug. 12

The New Hanover County Schools Policy Committee will meet at 1 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 4150: school assignments
  • 2120: code of ethics for board members

Oak Island Town Council will meet at Oak Island Town Hall, 4601 E Oak Island Dr., at 6 p.m. Video of the meeting can be accessed here and the agenda includes:

  • Public hearing for text amendment to allow artisan’s workshop as a use in CL-D
  • Committee appointments for planning board and parks and rec advisory board
  • Consideration of next steps for the commercial code repair

The North Carolina State Ports Authority Human Resources Committee will meet Aug. 12, 2 p.m., in the board room of the North Carolina Maritime Building, 2202 Burnett Blvd. Members of the public may join in person; an agenda was not posted by press.

Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO will meet at 5 p.m. in Belville at 146 Gregory Rd. The agenda includes:

  • Addressing public records request policy
  • Irrigation installation permitting 

Leland Board of Adjustment will meet at 6 p.m. in the Leland Fire Station, 51; it’s open to the public but is not being streamed currently. The agenda is here.

Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen will meet at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers, 321 Causeway Dr. The meetings can be streamed here and the agenda includes:

  • Presentation on developing Lee’s Nature Park
  • Consider adopting resolution (2025) 2358 to amend the Town’s Personnel Policy

Carolina Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. The agenda includes text amendment proposals, including addressing water-oriented businesses and personal watercraft sales and rental in the UDO and a zoning map amendment to rezone 301 Canal Dr from Marina Business (MB-1) to Central Business District. Meetings can be streamed here

Surf City Town Council will have a work session at 9 a.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. The agenda includes a Medlin/Dawson/Sidbury Annexation Petition and an Ordinance Amendment – Chapter 4 Beach Strand. Meetings are streamed here.

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 U.S. Highway 117. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 2025-2026 budget update
  • Consider Policy 4318 revisions

The Bald Head Island Commercial Review Board will meet at 10 a.m. in the Public Safety Complex, 273 Edward Teach Extension. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 87 Keelson Row – Preliminary Review (Continued from July 1, 2025)
  • 251 Edward Teach Wynd – Draft Review
  • Merchants Row Signage – Minor Review Change Application 

Wednesday, Aug. 13

CFPUA Authority Board will meet at 230 Government Center Dr., room 139, at 9 a.m. The agenda includes a strategic plan update, economic development projects update and committee reports. 

Southport ABC meets at 2 p.m. at the Southport ABC Store, 714 N. Howe St. An agenda was not posted by press; the meeting is open to the public.

Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet at Topsail Beach Town Hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes an update on the public safety building, discussion on proposed amendments to solid waste ordinance and update various committees. Meetings can be streamed here.

Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St. The agenda includes: 

  • Consideration of a preliminary plat on an existing RA, Rural Agricultural district for a 191-lot single-family detached residential development, called Weldon Village, located at 2630 NC Highway 53 W.
  • Consideration of a Special Use Permit for Burgaw Townhomes, a 135-unit townhome development, located on the east side of US Highway 117 and North of Annie P. Faison Rd.

Thursday, Aug. 14

The Wilmington Board of Adjustment will meet at 1 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Variance to allow a bulkhead extension in the R-20(Legacy) district at 1225 Great Oaks Drive and 302 Summer Rest Road

The Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 1619 Chestnut Street: Wall installation on a corner lot
  • 1705 Chestnut Street: Lift house to create crawl space, replace doors and windows, remove existing stucco chimney, install new patios and porch floor structures, restore existing siding, trim, and damaged railings and brackets
  • 23 North Front Street: Replace storefront

The New Hanover County Commissioners will hold an agenda review at 4 p.m. in the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press.

CFPUA Sustainability Committee will meet at 230 Government Center Dr., room 139, at 2 p.m. The agenda includes the 2024 Greenhouse Gas Report and Energy Action Plan Presentation.

Southport Board of Aldermen will meet in the Southport Community Building at 6 p.m. The BOA meetings stream here and the agenda includes:

  • Public hearing for the stormwater regulation ordinance
  • Public hearing for the events ordinance
  • Discussion on the historic district overlay (read PCD coverage here)

Leland Economic Development Committee will meet at 6 p.m. at Leland Fire Station 51; it’s open to the public but is not being streamed currently. Up for discussion is the strategic plan and technical review submittals. 

Navassa Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at 338 Main St. An agenda was not posted by press, but it’s open to the public.

North Topsail Planning Board will meet at Town Hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The agenda includes Southeastern NC Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan 2025 Update and the meetings are streamed here.

Friday, Aug. 15

The Bald Head Island Village Council will meet at 10 a.m. in the Public Safety Complex, 273 Edward Teach Extension. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.
