WILMINGTON — A weekend shooting in downtown Wilmington is under investigation and law enforcement is requesting anyone with information or who can identify the suspect come forward.

Wilmington Police Department were called to the 100 block of North Front Street around 1 a.m. on Saturday, after responding to a 911 call about a fight. A male suspect and female were in an altercation when the male pulled out a firearm and shot it into the ground. A bullet fragment hit a female pedestrian nearby; the victim was treated with non-life-threatening injuries. However, the suspect fled the scene.

WPD Criminal Investigation Division has a photo of the man allegedly involved in the incident and is asking for anyone who has seen him to report it to: 910-343-3600. Anonymous tips can also be sent via the tip 411 app.

“If you see this suspect, do not approach him, but call 911 immediately,” a release from the WPD instructs.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
