PENDER COUNTY — The grace period allotted to Pender County Utilities customers since a vendor unexpectedly closed last month ends Tuesday, June 24.

Professional Mail Services (PMS), which handled billing, closed in May unexpectedly and disrupted the delivery of utility bills for customers across North Carolina.

“Because of this, we extended payment deadlines and worked to provide as much flexibility as possible,” Brian Terry, water and sewer superintendent for Pender County Utilities, said in a release.

According to the utilities department, there are a number of accounts unpaid. Customers with past-due balances must make payment by the deadline of Monday, June 23, at 5 p.m. to avoid service disconnection.

Affected customers should have received notices and text messages to remind them of their delinquent status, urging them to take action. The bills can be paid by calling (910) 259-1570.
