WILMINGTON — Cape Fear Community College’s Burgaw Center will start a new class focusing on the construction trade.

The “Beginning Carpentry and Woodworking” class will run April 1 through July 24. Open to anyone 16 and older, students will receive hands-on training in fundamental carpentry skills.

The class comes as developments escalate in the Cape Fear region. Students will learn basic safety procedures, tool identification and usage, construction mathematics, and techniques for framing walls, partitions, roofs, doors, and windows. Additional topics include foundation layout and flooring system construction.

They also will engage on hands-on construction projects to apply skills in real-world scenarios.

Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The total cost for enrollment is $190.
