BRUNSWICK COUNTY — All precincts have reported in Brunswick County and indicate Republicans have secured seats in the local races.

This includes Pat Sykes, Frank Williams and Mike Forte maintaining their commissioner seats. All three incumbents have served on the board for years, with Forte elected in 2016 and Sykes and Williams elected in 2012.

Williams released a statement Tuesday evening about his win:

“I’m grateful to the voters for entrusting me with another term serving the county where I grew up. While there are always things we need to work on and areas where we can improve, tonight’s result demonstrates that Brunswick County residents support our commitment to keeping taxes low and focusing resources on key priorities like public safety, public education, and water and sewer infrastructure.”

On the school board, only Steve Barger faced a Democratic challenger, Janis Simmons. He won more than 63% of the vote.

Republican Dana Varnam will take over the Register of Deeds office, winning against Acquinetta Rochelle Beatty with 66.74% of the vote.

Below are the results from the N.C. State Board of Elections, with 159,778 out of 215,962 Brunswick County voters casting ballots, according to unofficial results, to be canvassed Nov. 15.
