WILMINGTON — Three males have been arrested on drug and firearm charges, as well as resisting arrest after one male attempted to flee the police on foot Saturday night.
The incident took place just after 6 p.m. when Wilmington Police Department units pulled over a vehicle for a window tint violation in the 200 block of Montgomery Avenue. Law enforcement asked one of the passengers to step outside the vehicle and he attempted to flee on foot.
Officers found a pistol in the waistband of 18-year-old Demarius Simpson upon detaining him. Upon inspection, they found the firearm contained a modified conversion device.
Upon a vehicular search, an additional firearm was located in the vehicle as well as marijuana.
Simpson was charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, carrying concealed weapon-gun, PWIMSD marijuana, resist/delay/obstruct, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He was given a $50,000 secured bond.
Two passengers were charged as well, including 22-year-old Ishmaeli James II of Charlotte, who has a $10,000 secured bond. He faces charges of CCW gun, PWIMSD marijuana, felony maintain vehicle for sale of controlled substance, possess, possess marijuana paraphernalia, and window tint violation.
An unnamed juvenile is also facing charges in the case, according to WPD.
