The Agenda: Local government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, Sept. 16

The New Hanover County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Trillium Health Resources Annual Update
  • Public hearing for the 2025 schedule of values

Kure Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers. The agenda includes department head updates, as well as consideration of a resolution in support of  in City of Wilmington’s application to the U.S Department of Transportation / Federal Highway Administration’s Bridge Investment Program Grant for the replacement of the 4th Street Bridge and the Pine Grove Drive Bridge. 

CANCELED Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in the commissioners’ chambers at the David R. Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • An appeal for rezoning a two-acre parcel from high-density residential to low-density commercial. 
  • Accepting year two of a $400,000 Substance Abuse and Mental Health
  • Services Administration (SAMHSA) Treatment Court Grant. 
  • The $150,000 will be distributed to support school nursing staff at Brunswick County Schools.

The Pender County Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 U.S. Highway 117 S. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • K-8 manager contract
  • Panorama software program purchase 

Tuesday, Sept. 17

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Ordinance Making Supplemental Appropriation of $54,669 in Program Income to the Special Purpose Fund to Support the City’s Housing Programs
  • Resolution Amending the Directing of the Expenditure of Opioid Settlement Funds

Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the Pender County Public Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker Street, in Burgaw. An agenda was not posted by press.

Brunswick Board of Elections will meet at 2 p.m. at David Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press.

Belville ABC Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 63 River Road. The agenda includes a report on best selling items and a closed session to discuss personnel and real property matters.

The New Hanover County Schools Policy Committee will meet at 10 a.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Policy 4318: Use of Wireless Communication Devices
  • Policy 4004: Student Voice 

The New Hanover County Board of Education will hold a work session on board norms at 12:30 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here

Brunswick County Board of Education will have committee meetings at 9 a.m. in the Brunswick County Schools Administrative Offices at 35 Referendum Drive in Bolivia. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agendas include: 

  • Updated Jackey’s Creek purchase agreement
  • Finnance budget amendments 
  • Student support specialist overview 

Wednesday, Sept. 18

Surf City Board of Adjustment will meet at 3 p.m. in the Surf City Municipal Complex council chambers, 214 W Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press.

Surf City Beautification and Enhancement Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the Surf City Municipal Complex multiple training room, 214 W Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press.

North Topsail Beach Inlet Sound Advisory Committee will meet at 2008 Loggerhead Court in North Topsail Beach. The agenda includes an update on the current status of Shoreline Protection Projects.

Carolina Beach Board of Adjustment meeting takes place in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Boulevard. The agenda includes two public hearings, including an appeal from Ant Bates Motel LLC regarding Chapter 34 Streets. Sidewalks and Rights-of-Way, Article III. Thursday, Sept. 19

The Wilmington Board of Adjustment will meet at 1 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 1 Hanover St.: Variance to Legacy City Code Section for setback regulations, maximum wall height, and street level facade requirements.
  • 14 Wilmington St.: Variances to tree preservation regarding # specimen tree in the CS, Commercial Services district pursuant to City Code Chapter 18, Land Development Code, Section 18-316.

Oak Island Town Council will have a special meeting at 5 p.m. in council chambers at town hall,  4601 East Oak Island Drive.  The agenda includes a closed session to discuss personnel and an update from WithersRavenel on the kickoff for the Land Use Plan update. 

Southport Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the community building at 223 East Bay Street in Southport. Meetings are livestreamed here.  An agenda was not posted by press.
