SURF CITY — A suspect wanted in the early morning Sunday shooting in a small beach community in Pender County has been apprehended.

Devon Nikoli Veronesi, 21, of Holly Ridge was arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

Law enforcement were called to the 1500 block of East Street just after midnight on June 23. They were responding to a shots fired call from the intersection of Pender Avenue and North Topsail Drive. Earlier, they learned, a male had discharged a firearm into a residence as well.

It happened following a multi-person altercation at the home, wherein both a female and male victim were shot — the former in the leg and the latter in the hand. They were ferried to the hospital by EMS for treatment.

The Surf City Police Department were able to respond and locate the suspect, along with the help of Pender Sheriff’s Office and Topsail Beach Police.
