Leland man arrested in stabbing

LELAND — The Leland Police Department has arrested a man in connection with an early-morning knife-stabbing on Wednesday.

Raymond Isaiah Shepard Jr., 23, has been charged with first degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflicting serious injury.

The LPD states officers were called to the 800 block of Moss Court around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday for a reported stabbing. Emergency crews responded along with law enforcement and found the victim with a stab wound to the upper torso. The victim was transported to Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.

According to the LPD, the victim and Shepard appear to know each other.

Shepard is being held at the Brunswick County Detention Center under no bond and is expected to have a first appearance and bond hearing later today.
